Glad to see that you’ve popped in for a spell. Come in! Sit down! Let me tell you about the new!
As you know, I sometimes take a break from my regularly scheduled (rather unscheduled) broadcasting to bring you a more intimate update of myself, the blog, and an assortment of things that I’d like to share. New developments. Ongoings. Plans for the future. In the spirit of the new changes, I’d like to describe it the best I can without delving into long-winded territory.
When it comes to blogging, less is more!
In the midst of throwing my focus between writing projects, keeping up a blog, and all of the other life bombardments, I realize that a change to my approach is in order.
You see, my bright ideas seem to come and go quickly. Patience is a virtue and all, but the speed they arrive is too finite for me to contain for too long. Noticing the presence of radio silence between postings, I’ve also noticed the cloud hanging over my head is getting heavier than it should be, and I should be more ready to let the rain come down.
I’ve adapted the bad habit of thinking that entries on my blog need to be publication-sized research papers, or short story-sized monstrosities. Perhaps some subjects warrant analysis, but others would do without killing readers with large blocks of text.
This change is necessary for me as a writer, and a deep thinker. … Some times, I see a topic and feel as if a mountain (really, a mole-hill) is on my shoulders.
Breaking up my thoughts and ideas into smaller chunks, and delivering them in faster turnaround might start a whole new series of subjects that I’ve been hesitating to tackle.
Therefore, I’m making this my last “big” post for a while, and will focus on more agile writing. Sparks of inspiration. Ideas burning in my brain in all of their fire and fury.
My con-going in 2019. A snapshot.
One often thinks that the Summer is mainly for those who enjoy getting out in the sun, and that nerds are a reverse of that. Not true, by a long shot! In fact, Summer is some of the busiest times for convention goers, as some of the biggest cons happen around the season.
The main one for me being CONvergence. It’s the gathering for peeps in the upper midwest who seek more of a tight knit community with a more party vibe.
I have a particular love for 2D Con, whereas it might not be as large, it’s appeal to me as a longtime gaming enthusiast is strong.
Finally, theres a bit of charm in attending an event which is still young, and still within years of its making. Hence why I venture out to St. Cloud for LionCon.You can read my review of LionCon during my first foray there, as I took it upon myself to write up a whole thing on it.
Of course, this is all small fry con-going in my opinion. To this date, I haven’t embarked upon GenCon, Con of the North, ComicCon, WizardCon, etc. … Let alone all of the cons and events for writing and creative art that I have on my list. Yet, as my geekdom evolves over time, I’m far more motivated to broaden my horizons.
National Novel Writing Month?
What I find relaxing about posts like these is that I embrace the opportunity to just write about what I’m up to without overthinking it, or setting any standards.
In most ways, I get the best writing done this way. Like many writers experience, its a struggle in itself to not overthink what goes onto the page, or tax yourself on the small things.
The Big Question… Shall I Nanowrimo?
For those who just tuned in, Nanowrimo is sort of a big deal in the writing community. “National Novel Writing Month”. The question is, with all of the new changes in my schedule this year, should I dig into the season headstrong?
You see, there is a purpose to me asking the question. Sometimes, a question can be asked for the sake of the question existing in plain text. If it wasn’t asked, it would have no chance to grow roots, to peak above soil, and to reach towards the sun. Without it, how could I possibly have the opportunity to say “Yes”?
Being it is October, what a great time to be asking it! And so, my friends. The question is out! It lives in the air around us know.
And it is upon us all to answer.
(Myself … erm …. in particular)
A List of New Things:
- The project I’m working on, “Mysteries of the Outrealm” is still in progress. Lots of distractions and work-related challenges have delayed some things. It’s cool tho! … I’m on the upward wave of my creative drive again, and it’ll get written!
- I’m part of a Dungeons and Dragons Twitch livestream now @RollNorth! Its the first live stream myself and some friends have been involved in, and it’s been quite a journey for its first few episodes.
- Now that I’ve gotten my feet wet with Twitch, I’m going to be running a stream in the near future, talking about story-telling, world-building, delving into different tabletop systems, etc.
